The Methodical Ethos

methodical muscle was created to bridge the gap between competitive bodybuilding and people who want to look and feel awesome while optimizing their approach.

Social media has turned fitness and bodybuilding into a polarizing warzone that tries to compartmentalize everyone into either “evidence-based nerd” or “bro scientist meathead” camps. In reality, both scientific research and real world, in-the-trenches experience play critical roles in improving physique outcomes and guiding the general population in the direction of result-driven approaches. Despite what many believe and espouse, they’re opposite sides of the same coin and looking for commonalities and synergies across both mindsets often leads to the right path. The vision for Methodical Muscle is to become a reliable resource center that strives not to pick sides, but rather to arm the curious with the right information to make thoughtful, intentional decisions about how they pursue the best version of themselves.

25+ years of experience

Sean has over 25 years of experience in the gym and has been an active NPC Men’s Physique competitor since 2014. His journey started in the late ‘90s (yes, he’s that old) when he made the commitment to improve his health and physique after growing up as the quintessential “chubby kid” in a group of otherwise athletic and physically fit friends. What began as a simple weight loss goal that resulted in a 50-pound reduction over the course of only eight months quickly evolved into an increasingly ferocious drive to not simply just lose fat, but actually build muscle. That initial enthusiasm became a life’s passion.

Fueled by a growth mindset (no pun) and a true desire to continuously learn and adapt rather than remain dogmatically loyal to any one concept, Sean strives to apply his knowledge to those on their own fitness journeys. With specific emphasis on intermediate lifters who’ve hit a plateau and want to fine-tune their approach to training and nutrition, his intention is to help as many people as possible attain their goals either through one-on-one coaching or the resources contained on this site.
